Common feelings around attending counselling

I feel like something is not right, I am unhappy and want to address it but I feel resistant

This a perfectly normal. Often we feel resistant because as human’s we feel like we should be able to work it out on our own. It takes courage to face up to the fact that something is not quite right in your life, or even that you need help with a certain life aspect.

I am anxious and worried about attending the session

It’s important to remember that this is your time, so therefore I work at your pace. If you are feeling anxious or have  other feelings about the session we can discuss if you wish, otherwise if you prefer not too then we simply work at your pace.  Most people are a little nerve’s on the first visit. It’s normal for everyone to be a little nervous, like any new experience it is always nerve-racking until you get a sense of what’s in store. I am here to make you feel at easy and relax into the session.

I don’t want to be judged

By seeking the right professional this will not even be a concern. This is why I am more than happy to meet you beforehand to easy any concerns you may have. It is not for me to say what is right or wrong or expect you to share my personal values. Everyone has their own unique perspectives of the world. My belief is there is no right, wrong, good, bad, simply experience people have.

I am concerned my beliefs won’t be respected

It’s important that mutual respect is established, once again this is the foundation of our work. I believe everybody has the right to their own belief’s and individuality.

What if I don’t get along with you?

Why is it in life that we just ‘click’ with some people and not others? It’s important to be able to establish a good relationship of trust, acceptance and rapport to be able to work together. I complete understand that not all people are compatible. That’s why I am more than happy for you to met me for a complementary 15 minute initial session. Should time or location be an issue I am more then happy to talk over the phone at a time suitable for both parties.

Will I be challenged along the way?

Absolutely but that’s the great thing. Through challenge we grow and evolve and work out who we are and what we stand for.  Remember this is an opportunity for you to ‘move’ in your life should you choose to.
